Is your bathroom outdated and tired? Or maybe you’re just tired of looking at the same bathroom for all these years!
Regardless, a refresh now and again is greatly appreciated. But what exactly does a bathroom renovation involve? What are some of the things you need to be thinking about?
To get an idea, check out this list of how to renovate your bathroom in 5 steps.
Table of Contents
1. Dream and Plan
The first step is to figure out what you want. think about your ideal bathroom. What fixtures does it have? What colour and style does it flaunt? Are there heated floors or heated towel racks? Big windows?
Once you have a good idea of your ideal bathroom, it’s time to scale it back to the bathroom you can afford. To give your bathroom a luxury feel, pick one or two of your ideal elements and include them in the final plan.
2. Demolish
Now it’s time to get rid of everything you don’t need. Rip out old flooring, take out that tub that you’re replacing with a modern shower, and clear out the old plumbing that needs to be replaced.
Make sure to have a plan for what to do with the old materials. Don’t forget that some of them can be repurposed in your new bathroom to help save money.
3. Rebuild
From there, it’s time to start rebuilding. even if you did the demolition yourself, it’s highly recommended to hire a specialist in renovating Adelaide bathrooms to do the actual renovation work. This ensures the renovation will go smoothly and end up the way you plan.
If you will be changing the floor plan, your renovators will move things around. Keep in mind you may need to get a permit for structural changes. This includes things like adding a toilet room, installing new or bigger windows, or enlarging the space.
At this point, a plumber and an electrician will come in to replace any damaged parts of the system and add the new stuff.
4. Install
Next, it’s time to install the fixtures. Anything that you’re upgrading (toilet, shower, countertops, sink, lights, etc.) needs to be properly installed.
Don’t forget to reuse as much as possible. For example, if you already had high-quality bathroom cabinets, they might still be in great shape.
Instead of tossing them out and buying a whole new (expensive) set, try refinishing them. This process will refresh your old cabinets and help them fit into a new colour scheme. Done right, they’ll look brand new!
5. Finish
At this point, your bathroom is pretty much put together. Now you can have some fun with the finishing touches. Add a mirror here, a couple of decorations there, and fun stuff like heated towel racks and interesting tapware.
Refresh and Reset
Now when you get up in the morning, you get to step into an energizing bathroom that will motivate your day. No more tired bathroom for you!
