Twist – it refers to how tightly the fibre or the carpet yarn are twisted. The more tightly the yarn is twisted the better the carpet will withstand the crushing and matting. Twisting is more commonly found in cut pile carpet as the tips are exposed, and it can easily get untwisted.
Density – Density of the carpet refers to the amount of yarn used in the carpet, and how tightly the yarns are packed together within the carpet.
To check the density of the carpet, try to reach the carpet backing and press your fingers on the carpet fibres. If it is difficult to reach the backing, the denser the carpet is made. When you bend the carpet into U shape, look at how much the carpet backing is visible. If the backing of the carpet is less visible, the density of the carpet is high.

- The subfloor or padding underneath the carpet should be installed in some cases. Older padding can be used for new carpet as well. Check for the consistency and flexibility of the padding before installing the new carpet.
- Try adding the new baseboard material. Even if it is time-consuming it would be an added advantage.
- Get the carpet customised by getting it cut appropriately. Check with the installer for the proper estimation of how much carpet you might need for a room.
